Two women, one wearing a white dress and the other a dark one, are riding as fast as they can. We hear the sound of arrows, the woman in white turns her head to see men pursuing them. The leader, Ranssyn Fane, is a D’Haran.
Fane: Kick them down!
Two soldiers aim the women with their bow, they shoot the trees. One of the two draws back his bow and aims Kahlan Amnell, the woman in white. The other woman is Dennee Amnell, who sees what the soldiers is about to do.
Dennee: Kahlan!
Kahlan bends down her head to avoid an arrow. One of the soldiers pulls his sword and tries to kill Dennee, but he fails and Kahlan shoots him with a knife.
Fane: Kill them!
A soldier shoots Dennee with an arrow.
Kahlan: Hold on, Dennee! (She stops her horse and turns. Dennee’s horse follows hers) Stay with me! We’re almost there!
Dennee falls of her horse and runs down in sloping. Kahlan dismounts her horse and follows her.
Kahlan: Dennee! (She arrives where Dennee lands, in a small stream) Dennee. Dennee!
Dennee hands a small bag.
Dennee: Take it. Take the book. Find him. This is more important than me, you know that. Please, Kahlan.
Kahlan: May the Spirits protect you, little sister.
Dennee looks up.
Dennee: Kahlan! (She sees the soldiers) Go.
Kahlan kiss Dennee on the forehead and then she goes, running. The soldiers follow her, she runs until a great green barrier stops her. The soldiers stop behind her.
Fane: You’ve reached the Boundry, Confessor. There is nowhere left to run.
A plant spits a seed on Kahlan’s dress, who gets a blue ball and hands it to the Boundry. The ball babbles.
A soldier: She’s got magic!
A breach opens in the Boundry, Kahlan runs inside. Fane gives orders to his soldiers.
Fane: Ride to the garrison of Kaldrith. Say word to Lord Rahl, the Confessor has broken through the Boundry.
Soldier: Yes, Sire.
Fane: You three are coming with me.
The soldier goes.
Soldier: But, Sire…
Fane pulls his sword and follows Kahlan into the Boundry, his men with him. The breach closes itself.
In the forest:
A man, shirtless, cuts wood with an axe. He is repairing a bridge. When he finishes repairing the bridge, a young boy with a cow and a dog stops before it.
Boy: Hi, Richard.
Richard: Jared, you’re just in time.
Jared: For what?
Richard: You can be the first to cross. (Jared takes a deep breath) Or you can go on the way the north bridge but this is saving two hours more. Don’t worry, it’s safe.
Jared: It’s not me who is scared, it’s Lanie.
Richard doesn’t really believe this.
Richard: Of course, smart cow. Never cross a bridge which hasn’t been tested. (He mounts his horse) Come on, boy. (He crosses the bridge twice) I don’t think Lanie has anything to worry about.
Jared: Thanks, Richard.
Richard: Tell my news to your father.
Jared: Flynn, come.
The dog follows his master.
Richard: Hungry, boy? (He caresses his horse) Yeah, me too.
Richard, not shirtless anymore and sit against a tree, eats an apple and gives a part to his horse. Then he sees something and gives the rest of the apple to his horse. He rises to his feet and sees a woman in white running through the forest. He hides behind a tree. The woman looks back, and he sees soldiers pursuing her. He runs.
The woman, Kahlan, runs to save her life and avoids an arrow. She falls and is forced to stop when she arrives at a cliff. She turns to face the soldiers. The seed that was on Kahlan’s dress goes planting itself on the ground. One soldier draws back his bow, and Kahlan rises her hand.
Kahlan: Stay back.
Fane (to his soldier): Shoot her.
Richard comes and pushes the soldier who falls. Then he imposes himself between the soldiers and Kahlan.
Richard: Leave her alone!
Fane: You’re making a mistake, boy. This girl is dangerous.
Richard: Four men against one woman? I think she is a lot in danger.
Fane comes before Richard.
Fane: You don’t understand what you’re talking about. And this is not your fight. So be smart, and go home.
Richard: I’m not going anywhere!
Fane kicks him on the head and Richard falls. Then Fane looks back to Kahlan and gives orders to the soldiers approaching her.
Fane: Easy. Do not let her grasp you.
The soldier tries to kill her, but she grasps the blade of his sword and takes him by his throat. Her eyes turn black, like the soldier’s. He turns to his fellows and fights them. Kahlan collapses on the floor and seems exhausted. Richard looks at her, completely lost. Fane kills the soldier and approach Kahlan. He points his sword at Kahlan who tries to move backwards.
Fane: It’s over for you, Confessor.
He rises his sword, ready to kill her, but Richard hold him and they fight. Fane seems to take advantage but Kahlan uses one of her knifes to stab him in the foot. He shouts and falls off the cliff, but he manages to take Richard’s necklace. Richard collapses on the floor, out of breath. Kahlan looks at him and he looks to the dead soldiers. Kahlan stands and Richard looks at her.
Richard: These men, why were they trying to kill you? Your hand is bleeding. (Kahlan rips up a band of her dress) Let me take you to my father’s, we can dress the wound. (He offers his hand to Kahlan, she takes it and threats him with her knife on his throat) Did I do something wrong?
Kahlan: No. I’m just… not used to people touching me.
Richard: I’m sorry.
Kahlan lows her knife.
Kahlan: It’s alright. (Richard helps her to rise) I have to go.
Richard: Where?
Kahlan searches something near the dead soldiers.
Kahlan: There’s someone I need to find.
Richard: Who? Maybe I can help you.
Kahlan: Don’t worry about me, I can take care of myself.
She turns one of the soldiers on his back to take his knifes.
Richard: Why were these men chasing you?
Kahlan: You always ask as many questions?
Richard: I just saved your life. For this you could tell me just somehow what happened here.
Kahlan: Actually, I saved yours.
Kahlan starts to go.
Richard: When you touched that man, what did you do to him? Hey!
He touches her on the shoulder, she turns.
Kahlan: You want to know what I did to that man? Try to follow me and you’ll find out.
She goes, running. Richard approaches the cliff in searching for Fane’s body, but he doesn’t see anything. The seed which has transformed to a plant winds itself around Richard’s leg. When he found out he can’t move his leg, he tries to push aside the plant and it attacks his hand. He kills it with his foot and looks at his hand. The plant has left a bite like a snake would have.
Fane is back to where the dead soldiers are, he covers them with their cloaks. Hearing the sounds of steps, he pulls his sword and a knife. He sees a man approaching.
Man: Drop the weapons. (He pulls his own sword) I said drop them.
Fane: On whose authority?
Man: The Councilor’s Guards, which would be me (three men come on their horses and stop behind him) and them.
The three riders aim him with their bows. Fane drops his weapons and Chase, the first man, nods and approaches Fane.
Chase: Now, tell me what happened here.
Fane: This Councilor you guard, is he the ruler of this province?
Chase: He is.
Fane: Then I will tell my story to him.
At Michael’s house:
Fane speaks to Michael, the Councilor, Chase is here.
Fane: My name is Ranssyn Fane, the commander of the D’Haran forces.
Michael: D’Hara? But that’s…
Fane: I have come from the Midlands.
Chase: What other fairy tales do you have to tell us?
Michael looks at Chase before answer.
Michael: Forgive our skepticism, but no one’s cross the Boundry in hundreds of years, not since it went up. It can’t be done.
Fane: The woman I’m pursuing found a way. I followed her. She killed two of my men.
Chase: One woman? How?
Fane: She is a witch.
In the forest:
Kahlan gets her blue ball and speaks to it.
Kahlan: Come on, Shar, come on. Okay, here we are. (Richard is watching her from behind a tree) Here.
Kahlan heads to the direction that the little creature indicates, Richard is disturbed by the bite of the plant which hurts him. The bite is red and swelled. When he raises his head, Kahlan has disappeared. He comes back home, riding.
At Richard’s home:
Georg, Richard’s father, speaks to him while playing chess.
Georg: You’re finished, Richard. I got you beaten in two moves.
Richard: Dad…
Georg: Come on, let’s get the blood bath over so we can eat.
Richard: Dad…
Richard holds his hand against his chest.
Georg: Son. (He turns his head to look Richard) What is it? What’s happened?
At Michael’s house:
Fane: Her magic is more powerful than you can possibly imagine. She used it to cross into your territory. And she had help from someone of this side of the Boundry. He was wearing this. (He takes a necklace out of his chainmail, a dragon’s fang bounded to a cord, and hands it to Michael, who looks at Chase) You recognize it.
Michael: It belongs to my brother.
At Georg’s house:
Richard holds a piece of the plant which attacked him.
Richard: A poison-vine I have never seen before. That glowing thing in her hand, what she did to that man who attacked her, it was magic, wasn’t it? (Georg nods) How is that possible? There is no magic this side of the Boundry.
Georg: Because, son, she and these men are from the Midlands.
Richard: That can’t be right.
Georg: I was a fool to think this day would never come.
Richard: What day?
Georg: Richard, you know that I love you.
He reaches his son’s shoulder.
Richard: Dad, of course. (They hear noises outside, Georg rise to his feet and peers through a window to see Chase, Michael, Fane and the others riding. Richard peers too and sees Fane) Dad, that’s him, that’s the guy who fall over the cliff!
Georg grabs him.
Georg: You have to live, now!
Richard: But, dad…
Georg: By the back, before they come here!
Richard: But dad, Michael and Chase are with him, they can help!
Georg: Go!
Richard: Where?
Georg: Blackthorn’s hill. Find Zedd.
Richard: That crazy old man?
Georg: Zedd will explain everything.
Richard: He talks to his chickens, why?
Georg: Tell him I sent you, he’ll know why. Just go, I’ll meet you there as soon as I can.
Richard: Dad…
Georg hugs Richard.
Georg: Richard, you have to go. Now!
Richard goes just as someone knock on the door.
Georg: I haven’t seen him since breakfast time.
Fane looks at him, and Michael glares Chase.
Michael: Do you have any idea where he might have gone?
Georg: No. This morning, he said he was gonna work on the new bridge.
Fane sees the vine on the table.
Fane: Are you sure he didn’t come home during the day? Maybe while you were out getting firewood.
Georg: I haven’t left the house.
Michael speaks to Chase.
Michael: Take Commander Fane and find him.
Georg rises from his chair.
Georg: If Richard is in trouble, I want to help. If we all follow a different trail…
Fane: Better if you stay here. He could still come back, and he may be frightened, or worse.
Georg: What do you mean?
Fane: The witch has the power to put him under her control, and if she does, he’s gonna need his father here to try to focus on some sense. You should leave some of your men, in case it goes badly.
Michael nods and Fane goes.
Michael: Chase, post two men outside. Take the rest down to the south bridge. (Chase gets out of the house. Michael speaks to his father) What is it?
Georg: Michael, why are you so quick to believe a stranger from the Midlands?
Michael: Because Richard does things without thinking. He always has! Since he was a little boy, and you’ve always protected him.
Georg: He’s my son. (He puts his hands on Michael’s shoulders) He’s your brother. Please, Michael, make sure he doesn’t get hurt.
Michael: Yeah, of course I will. But it’s my responsibility to protect the people of this town. Men have been killed, and Richard was involved. (He gives to Georg Richard’s necklace) Stay here, if he comes back, bring him to me. We’ll find out what really happened.
Georg looks at the necklace.
At Zedd’s house:
An old man is stand on a rock, speaking to a chicken.
Zedd: It’s a bad omen, Clara. A cloud on the shape of a horn, far east. I’m betting a mouth of suppers it will bring no good before the sun comes up. (The chicken warbles) Oh no no no no, don’t worry Clara, supper will never be you.
A woman, Kahlan, arrives behind Zedd.
Kahlan: I need your help, wizard.
Zedd: Sorry, err, I’m as deaf as a peach and as naked as a baby bird. (He puts Clara before his genitals and turns to see Kahlan) What did you say?
Kahlan: I asked the Great Wizard Zeddicus Zu’l Zorander for his assistance.
Zedd shakes his head.
Zedd: No, I think you have me confused with somebody else.
Kahlan: There’s no confusion. I had help finding you.
She holds Shar in sight.
Zedd: What did I tell you, Clara? Before the sun comes up. Well, it’s good while it wasted, nice quiet couple of decades.
Zedd slips on his shirt.
Kahlan: Time is up. Bring me to the Seeker.
Zedd raises his head at that, and hears the sound of a horse coming. It’s Richard, pale and sweated. He sees Kahlan.
Richard: You.
He faints and falls off his horse.
Richard his lying on Zedd’s bed, Zedd is chanting to heal him. Kahlan is holding Richard’s wounded hand. Smoke in form of a snake gets out of the wound and fades in the air. Richard calms down. Kahlan put a hand on his brow and the wound disappears from his hand.
Kahlan: His fever is broken. (To Zedd) Now take me to the Seeker.
Zedd: He’s here.
Kahlan: Him? (She looks at Richard) But he’s…
Zedd: What? Not good enough? You wanted a Seeker, there he is. If he’s not up to your stands, well it’s fine by me, find yourself another.
Richard (weakly): Seeker? What are you talking about?
Kahlan: You never told him? (Zedd avoids her look) You were supposed to train him, prepare him. What have you been doing for the last twenty years?
Zedd: Letting him catch worms, steal apples, starch his knees, find out what makes his heart beat faster.
Kahlan: My sister gave her life to make sure I got here, to make sure that I put the Book in the Seeker’s hands, and he’s catching worms?
Zedd: Never know a great man who didn’t had dirt under his hands.
Kahlan: While he’s getting his hands dirty, did it ever occurred to you to give him the slightest hint that he is the first true Seeker in the last thousand years? He has a destiny!
Zedd: Who are you to decide a man’s destiny?
Kahlan: It’s not me, it’s the prophecy.
Zedd: Prophecy be damned! I averted the prophecy when I brought him here, until you opened a nice little door in the Boundry and say “right this way to the Seeker, ladies and gentlemen!”
Kahlan: So it doesn’t matter that Darken Rahl is growing more powerful every day, that people in the Midlands are losing their freedom, dying by thousands…
Richard (sit): Stop! What are you talking about? And what’s a Seeker?
Zedd: A Seeker is a hero who rises in a time of trouble and suffering, and seeks out the evil and fights it whatever he can.
Richard: What does it have to do with me?
Kahlan: If you were so sure you averted the prophecy, that he was gonna live a nice peaceful life, why did you stay near him all these years? Tell him the truth. Tell him who he is.
Zedd approaches Richard.
Zedd: First, you need to know about a man named Darken Rahl. (A man rubbing his knife against a wall is approaching another man hanged by his arms) He is a man, and not some twisted spectre of evil from the underworld to stack off the dreams of the human kind. Twenty-three years ago a great prophet spoke on his death bed of the bird of a true Seeker. (A baby is screaming) The child’s destiny would be to seek out and kill the greatest evil of all, Darken Rahl. But in his last breath, the prophet named the town where the child had been born. (An army is charging a town) Rahl sent his assassins. (People are running from the town, soldiers are killing many of them) And in one night, they murdered every first-born sons of Brennidon. Save one. By the grace of the Spirits, word of the prophecy found his way to me along with something Darken Rahl didn’t have. (An old man is crossing the way, hooded) Your name. Your mother hid birth in the mindless of the massacre. She was young, she was weak. (The old man is caressing the face of a young woman) The midwife didn’t think she would last the night. (Back to the real time, Zedd is looking at Richard) She was still alive when I took you from her arms. (The baby is screaming) She kissed you, blessed you.
Richard: My mother died when I was 10. Here, in Hartland.
Zedd: The woman you know as your mother raised you and loved you as if you were her own, but she’d not hid birth you. I crossed the Boundry (In the past, Zedd is riding towards the Boundry and holds the same creature as Shar) at night, unseen, with you in my arms. (Clouds are passing through the sky) For weeks I watched, listened, read the clouds, and then to know that in all the world there was no one kinder than Georg and Mary Cypher. (Zedd is giving the baby Richard to Mary Cypher) I told them your story and they took you under their home and into their hearts. If I live to be on a thousand years old I’ll never make a wiser choice than picking them for the job.
Richard nods.
Richard: So. According to this fancy, who’s my real father?
Zedd: I don’t know.
Richard: And if you knew my parents so well, why didn’t I ever see you with them? Why haven’t you talked it?
Zedd: I kept myself apart, close enough to keep watch over you but far enough away so that if Darken Rahl ever found his way to me, I wouldn’t be a blazing arrow pointing the way to you. Apparently, that’s what Confessors are for.
Richard looks at Kahlan.
Richard: Confessors?
Kahlan: An ancient order of women who swore to find the truth no matter how hard people may try to hide it. And if a Seeker should arise, to protect him with their life. My name is Kahlan. I’m sorry for threatening you today. You did save my life. (Richard smiles) I came here to bring you this.
She takes a bag and takes a book out of it. It’s covered with a rune.
Richard: A book?
Kahlan: Not just any book. It’s the Book of Counted Shadows. It was written in a time before remembering. For thousand years, it’s been kept safe in the Wizard’s Keep, in Aydindril. But a month ago, the armies of Darken Rahl broke through our last defenses in intent to steal it.
Richard: Why?
Zedd: Because the book contains the secrets of power.
Kahlan: And if Darken Rahl gets it, he will use it to control every corner of the world, and we will all become his slaves. (She gives the Book to Richard) The prophecy says that the Seeker will use the Book in his quest to defeat Rahl.
Zedd: Read it.
Richard opens the book which is written in a strange language, hieroglyphs.
Richard: Uh, maybe that Seeker you’re looking for knows this language but (he closes the book) I don’t.
Kahlan: Try.
With a sight, Richard opens again the book and reads the hieroglyphs.
Richard: “Truth of the words of the Book of Counted Shadows can only be assured by a Confessor.” (Kahlan looks at Zedd who closes his eyes) How…?
Zedd: Because you are the true Seeker.
In the forest:
Chase is with Fane, cleaning the way through the trees.
Fane: It’s a good blade you got there. I could use a tool like that. Where did you get it?
Chase: Trader from down south. Led me to believe it was one of a kind but you know how trader is.
He laughs.
Fane: What is it?
Chase: Richard’s trail ends here.
Fane: How is that possible?
Chase: He knows how to mask his trail.
Fane: We split up. To cover more ground.
He kicks his horse, Chase watches him go.
At Zedd’s house:
Kahlan: Give him the Sword. Name him.
Richard: What sword?
Zedd passes his hand near the wall and a sword appears. Richard rises to his feet. Zedd holds the blade in sight.
Kahlan: This is the Sword of Truth.
Zedd: In anyone else’s hands it’s just a peace of steal. (He takes the sword to give it to Richard) But in the Seeker’s hands, it gives the power to fight evil.
Kahlan: And with it, you will kill Darken Rahl.
Richard: I’m not killing anybody. I don’t even know any of you! For all I know, this is some kind of trick. I’m not a Seeker. I don’t want any book or any sword.
Zedd: Calm down, my boy.
Richard: I’m not your boy. My father is Georg Cypher, and if any of this was true, he would have told me. Now get out of my way.
Richard gets out of the house.
Kahlan: Richard, wait!
Zedd: Let him go.
Kahlan: What?
Zedd: He needs to find the truth from himself. Until then, he cannot be named.
Richard is riding in the forest.
At Georg’s house:
The Councilor’s Guards outside Georg’s house watch Fane coming back.
Fane: Your First Councilor needs more men on the north hill. He said us to tell you to join him there.
The guards go. Inside, hearing and watching them leaving, Georg prepares himself to go, but is stopped when Fane opens the door pointing a blade on him.
Fane: Tell me where to find your son.
Georg moves backwards in the house.
In the forest:
Richard is on his horse and stops when he hears the sounds of a fly. Many flies are flying around him, he crushes one on his neck and looks it on his hand: there is many blood for a fly. He looks at the sky and shakes his hand to dismiss the flies. His horse rears up and Richard falls. His horse is surrounded by flies. Someone put his hand on his mouth and turns him on his back. Richard recognizes Kahlan.
Kahlan (stressing her words): Don’t make a sound.
Richard nods and they hear the sound of a creature roaring. The creature comes from the sky and attacks Richard’s horse to eat him. Kahlan holds Richard but he escapes and yells. Kahlan catches up with him. The creature, a kind of dragon, rises her head and flies toward them but is destroyed by Zedd’s fire. Zedd shakes is smoking hand.
Richard: What was that thing?
Kahlan: A gar. It uses the blood flies to sniff out his preys.
Zedd: Apparently D’Haran soldiers weren’t the only things that followed you through the Boundry.
Richard: What did you do to it?
Zedd: Wizard’s fire. Wasn’t sure I had it in me after all these years.
Richard goes to mount on Zedd’s horse.
Kahlan: What are you doing?
Richard: Going to find my father before something horrible happens to him too.
Zedd: We’re going together.
Richard: No! Stay away from me, both of you!
Richard goes.
Kahlan: He’s got the Sword and the Book!
Zedd: Isn’t that exactly what you wanted?
On a hill:
Richard sees his father’s house on fire.
Richard: Dad? (He pulls the Sword of Truth which glows and looks again at the house, furious) Yah!
At Georg’s house:
Richard is before the house on fire, still holding the Sword.
Richard: Dad! (He gets in the house) Dad! (He sees his dad lying on the floor and catches up with him) I’m gonna get you out of here! (He takes his dad and pulls him out of the house. He lets him on the ground and press the wound of Georg) Who did this?
Georg: The D’Haran, Ranssyn Fane.
Richard: I’ll take you to Zedd’s.
Georg: No.
Richard: He has potions.
Georg: No! No, Fane is looking for you there. You can’t go back to Zedd’s.
Richard: Zedd told me that you’re not my father.
Georg: Of course I’m your father.
Richard sights and smiles.
Richard: Then it was a lie.
Georg: No. Every word he told you is true. But I’ll always be your father.
Richard takes his father’s hand and realizes he’s holding something: his necklace. Georg is dead.
Richard: Dad?
He hugs his dad and hears the sounds of horses coming. It’s Michael.
Michael: Richard! We saw the smoke! What happened?
Richard: He’s dead.
Richard stands up, Michael comes to his father’s side and sees the Sword of Truth covered with blood.
Michael: Did the witch make you do this?
Richard: Michael, you can’t possibly believe…
Michael: I don’t know what to believe!
Richard: It was Ranssyn Fane.
Michael: He’s with Chase, looking for you.
Richard: Well he came back!
Michael: That sword, where did you get it? Richard, where have you been?
Richard: Michael, he murdered our father.
Michael: Not our father. My father.
Richard: You knew. Why didn’t you tell me?
Michael: Because he made me swear that I never would. But now he’s dead.
Richard: Did he tell you where I came from?
Michael: No. But I’m beginning to wonder. And until I find out, you’re not going anywhere. (To his men) Take him.
Richard runs to take his sword.
Richard: Stay back!
The Sword glows.
Michael: Witchcraft. Fane was right!
Richard mounts his horse and goes.
In the forest:
Richard is charging towards Zedd’s house. He is stopped by Zedd and Kahlan. Zedd rises his hands.
Zedd: Where are you going in such a hurry, boy?
Richard: I’m going back to your house to find Fane. He murdered my father.
Zedd closes his eyes.
Kahlan: I’m so sorry.
Richard: Get out my way.
Zedd: I understand your pain. (He stops when Richard points his sword on him, the sword is still glowing) Richard Cypher, you’re mean for more than revenge.
Richard: You think I care what you say, old man? I’m going to kill him!
Kahlan: And if you fail, and he kills you?
Richard: You said this sword would give me the power to fight evil.
Zedd: Yes, in a serve as freedom and justice, not your own rage. You’re not ready to use this sword.
Richard: I said: get out of my way! Come on!
Richard pushes his horse and goes, Kahlan and Zedd follow him.
At Zedd’s house:
Richard arrives at the house, he dismounts his horse. He enters in the house which is totally messed up. He is scared by a chicken, and suddenly feels the point of a sword on his throw.
Fane: Tell me where the witch is, or I run you through.
Richard turns his head to see Fane.
Richard: I’ll never help you.
Fane moves his sword to make Richard step back and lean against a wall.
Fane: I don’t know what lies the witch has put into your head, (He points Richard’s chest with his sword) but ask yourself. Are you really prepared to die for someone you don’t even know?
Richard: She didn’t kill my father. You did.
Richard kicks Fane’s sword with the Sword of Truth, and they fight. Fast, Fane takes the advantage and throws Richard on the ground before the house.
Fane: Beg for your life, boy! Do it! Just like your father did. (He sees the bag on Richard’s horse) The Book. You brought me the Book!
He snatches the bag.
Richard: No!
He crawls towards his sword and tries to stop Fane, but the D’Haran runs with Richard’s horse and the Book of Counted Shadows.
Near a bridge:
Richard catches up with Fane and stops one side of the bridge, while Fane is on the other side.
Richard: Fane! I’m gonna kill you! You’re gonna die!
Fane pulls his sword and cuts the ropes that hold the bridge.
Kahlan: Richard! (She takes Richard as he was about to fall off the cliff) The Book?
Richard: Fane has it.
He falls on his knees.
Kahlan: Then we failed.
Richard: No, I failed.
Zedd: Not yet. Fane still has to cross the Boundry to get the Book to Rahl. We can still stop him.
Richard: Don’t you get it? I’m not what you want me to be! Maybe all those years ago, you saved the wrong child.
Zedd kneels beside him.
Zedd: No. You are the true Seeker. If anybody failed, it was me, telling myself that this storm would never come. Kahlan was right, I should have prepared you. What happened to your father was only the beginning of Rahl’s evil, but you can stop it. You and only you.
Richard: How?
Zedd: In this life, we cannot go back, only forward. (He puts his hand on Richard’s shoulder) You have a great destiny hide of you, Richard Cypher, if you want to do accept it.
Richard: I have lost everything.
Zedd: Not everything. You have me, and Kahlan, and most importantly you have yourself. Everything your father brought you up to be. And if you stop Rahl, then your father and Kahlan’s sister won’t have die for nothing.
Richard: Teach me.
Zedd chants, turning around Richard and disposing a kind of power in circle.
Zedd: Richard Cypher, without your road would be long and your act uncertain, do you want to take this journey?
Richard: I will.
Kahlan holds the Sword of Truth.
Zedd: You will leave behind your friends and all that you have known?
Richard: I will.
Zedd: With the forces of evil who sworn to bring about your death, still will you go on?
Richard: I will.
Zedd takes the Sword and gives his powder to Kahlan. He comes to stand right before Richard, waving the Sword.
Zedd: The will you accept the name of the Seeker?
Richard: I will.
Zedd gives the Sword of Truth to Richard and steps back.
Zedd: Then I, First Wizard Zeddicus Zu’l Zorander, so name you.
He uses his magic to light a fire around Richard, who rises the Sword. Thunder comes striking the Sword of Truth.
In a castle:
In his bed, a man jolts awake. A soldier enters in his room.
Soldier: Lord Rahl? What is it? What’s wrong?
Rahl: The Seeker. He lives.
